Dry skin is a common problem for those with diabetes – an estimated 80% of diabetics suffer from skin problems resulting from high blood sugar levels. This is due to the skin’s reduced ability to store moisture. The most prevalent cases of dry and chapped skin are those on the legs and feet. Symptoms can range from dryness to cracks, foot fungus, skin infection and ulceration. Without treatment, it can weaken the protective barrier of the skin and cause complications (i.e. progressing to foot amputation), so treatment is important.

Last month, GlucoRx joined forces with Allpresan and added the revolutionary foam creams to our extended range of products. GlucoRx Sales Director ‘Chris Chapman’ gave his input on why he feels it will be a productive move for the future – “It’s a great product we would like to bring into the GlucoRx family, and we would like all those with Diabetes to have healthy feet.”

Allpresan became the first clinically-approved diabetic moisturiser available in the UK in 2015. Creams can often cause accumulation of moisture, so diabetics were previously advised not to use them between toes as this would increase the risk of infection. GlucoRx Allpresan® foam cream, however, overcomes this obstacle and is medically approved to be used safely on dry or cracked skin on the entire foot (protection from heel to toe) by anyone with diabetes.

GlucoRx Allpresan®’s BarrioExpert® Foam Cream Technology protects against infections and other problems by repairing and strengthening the damaged skin barrier. The creams are absorbed rapidly without greasy residue and have been tested by the DAAB to be suitable for sensitive skin. This is likely due to the fact that no artificial fragrances, colourants or preservatives are added.

Here are a few key tips to keep your feet healthy:

  • Develop a daily routine to wash and moisturise your feet often enough to keep them clean, and fight cracks or dryness.
  • Wear the right socks and shoes, and never go barefoot. One of the most important factors to foot health is proper-fitting shoes with the right support.
  • Get your feet checked every year to understand your risk score and learn how to look after your skin.

GlucoRx Allpresan® foam cream is proudly used by Richard Lane – President of the Diabetes UK charity. After replacing a previous cream and using GlucoRx Allpresan® for six months, he said I can honestly say that I have noticed a distinct improvement in my feet in that they are not nearly as dry as they have historically been.” Richard Lane went on to recommend it as “the best and most effective cream that I have ever used.”

Two variants of the foam cream are currently available:

  1. GlucoRx Allpresan® Basic – 5% Urea. This is for preventing dry, sensitive skin on diabetics’ feet.
  2. GlucoRx Allpresan® Intensive – 10% Urea. For very dry or cracked skin at risk of complications, this is the more appropriate solution.

GlucoRx Allpresan® diabetic foam creams are available on Prescription and to purchase at Pharmacies nationwide.
